Adjunct Faculty - American Sign Language (ASL) & Interpreting

The American Sign Language (ASL) & Interpreting Department at St. Catherine University invites applications for Adjunct Lecturer positions to teach Introductory ASL courses for the 2023-2024 academic year both online and in-person.

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 2:15pm - 3:20pm (in-person)
  • Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30pm - 3:10pm (in-person)

The ASL and Interpreting Department St. Catherine University hosted the first conference on Deaf Interpreting during the summer of 2015, bringing over 200 Deaf interpreters from around the country to campus. St. Kate's is proud of our partnerships with vibrant Deaf and interpreting communities, where activism and community involvement is highly valued. We offer undergraduate courses both in person as well as using a hybrid format.
  • Teach one or two classes on a semester basis in traditional or online environments.
  • Educate and support students in their classroom.
  • Communicate respectfully and build relationships of trust with people of all cultures and abilities.
  • Foster a culture of inclusive excellence through authentic relationships with students as an educator, and a mentor.
  • Monitor and assess student-learning outcomes and provide timely and frequent feedback to students on academic performance.
  • Monitor curriculum content and make recommendations as appropriate to maintain relevance.
  • Consistent with the university's Catholic identity, its commitment to women, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and dedication to a liberal arts-based curriculum, faculty are expected to manifest these themes in their teaching and practice experiences.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in ASL, linguistics, deaf studies, or a closely related area
  • Knowledge of Deaf Culture: Understanding of and experience in Deaf culture, history, and community is important for effectively teaching ASL and related courses.
