At The Children's Center for Communication/Beverly School for the Deaf (CCCBSD), we provide transformative, person-centered education and services for Deaf and/or disabled individuals in a language-rich, inclusive environment.

We are seeking a Teacher of the Deaf - Site-Based (TOD) to lead a collaborative Deaf Education classroom within a host elementary school. This is a unique opportunity to combine the depth of classroom teaching with the impact of a partnership model -supporting students both within a specialized setting and in inclusive environments.

About the Role
The Teacher of the Deaf - Site-Based is a highly trained educator responsible for leading a classroom serving a cohort of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students within a collaborative school setting.
In this role, you will:

  • Provide daily, direct instruction aligned to IEP goals and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks

  • Create a language-rich, accessible learning environment

  • Support students'academic, communication, and social-emotional development

  • Facilitate meaningful inclusion opportunities within general education settings

  • Serve as a key liaison between CCCBSD and the host school

    Key Responsibilities
    Instruction & Student Learning

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive unit and lesson plans

  • Provide individualized and small group instruction based on student needs

  • Align instruction to IEP goals, student data, and curriculum standards

  • Utilize assistive technology and adaptive tools to support access

  • Monitor and assess student progress using a variety of methods


  • IEP, Assessment & Compliance

  • Develop and implement IEPs, including goals, accommodations, and progress monitoring

  • Complete progress reports and educational evaluations in a timely manner

  • Administer and support MCAS and MCAS-Alt assessments

  • Maintain accurate and compliant student documentation


  • Classroom & Program Leadership

  • Lead and manage a site-based Deaf Education classroom/program

  • Develop classroom schedules, including inclusion opportunities

  • Create a structured, engaging, and supportive classroom environment

  • Oversee classroom materials, supplies, and organization


  • Collaboration & Partnership

  • Collaborate with general and special education staff within the host school

  • Act as the primary point of contact for the site-based program

  • Support classroom teachers in ensuring accessible instruction

  • Facilitate peer awareness and inclusion activities

  • Communicate regularly with families and caregivers


  • Supervision & Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor teaching assistants

  • Lead site-based team meetings

  • Partner with the Director of Outreach on staff support and evaluation

  • Coordinate with interpreters and related service providers to ensure full access


  • Student Support & Access

  • Support use of hearing assistive technology (e.g., hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems)

  • Promote self-advocacy and social-emotional development

  • Ensure students have full access to academic and social opportunities


  • Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting

  • Eligibility for a Massachusetts Teacher of the Deaf (TOD) license (or waiver eligible)


  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field

  • 3+ years of relevant experience

  • Experience in classroom teaching and IEP development

  • Knowledge of assistive technology and communication modalities

  • ASL proficiency or willingness to develop skills

    Work Environment & Physical Demands
    This is an onsite position aligned with CCCBSD's academic school calendar, including scheduled school breaks and summer programming. Work takes place in a school-based classroom environment, with opportunities to support students in both specialized and inclusive settings.

    The role may involve moderate physical activity, including supporting students weighing 40 lbs. or more. Participation in emergency preparedness drills is required. CCCBSD provides reasonable accommodations to ensure accessibility and success in the role.

    Background Check Requirement
    Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of all required background checks, including Massachusetts CORI and SAFIS fingerprinting, in accordance with state regulations.
