Department Statement:
The Center for Learning, Teaching, and Research (CLTR) at Colgate University invites applications for the newly created position of Learning Support Coordinator. The Learning Support Coordinator will join a team of faculty and staff in an effort to expand capacity and broaden the Centers support for students with a diverse array of learning abilities. The position will report to the Director of the Office of Disability Services but will work in close collaboration with the CLTR Faculty Director and the Associate Director of the CLTR for Student Programs to coordinate and support a variety of services for learners with diverse abilities at Colgate.

Key areas of focus for this position include implementation of academic accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act to support students with disabilities, assisting in the management of accommodated testing services, developing adjustment plans, distributing and supporting of assistive technology, assisting students with effective study strategies, time management skills, and other organizational methods to improve their academic experience.

Accountabilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop appropriate curricular and co-curricular adjustment plans based on functional limitations created by individual student needs
  • Participate in the interactive, self-identification intake process for new students
  • Review student documentation; synthesize information to develop reasonable adjustment plans; ensure documentation meets standards established by Section 504 and ADAAA; make decisions related to adjustment requests; monitor services, and reevaluate as needs and courses change
  • Collaborate with faculty and other departments in the effective, required, and timely delivery of academic materials; confirm accommodation implementation and effectiveness throughout each course
  • Provide ongoing student support, development of policy and procedures, and overall office functionality
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with colleagues in CLTR and other partnering offices across campus (Residential Life, Administrative/Academic Deans, Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services, Admissions, Registrar)
  • Develop training opportunities for faculty and staff in collaboration with the Director of Disability Services
  • Understand learning theory and practice to support diverse learner needs
  • Facilitate student learning support utilizing research-based methodologies for individuals with diverse abilities



This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), in accordance with the federal statutory requirements of the Jeanne Clery Act. CSAs are required to and responsible for reporting allegations of crimes they receive from students and employees to the Campus Safety Department.

Professional Experience/Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience working with the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA), and assistive technology.
  • Ability to communicate professionally (both verbally and in writing) with careful attention to detail.
  • A firm commitment to providing exceptional service to students and their families.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with a broad array of student support services to include disability services in higher education.
  • Experience interpreting clinical documentation for a full range of disabilities and operationalizing into reasonable accommodations in the postsecondary learning environment for traditional and nontraditional learners.
  • Strong organizational skills with expertise in planning, problem-solving, and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the use of accessible technology to support diverse learners in educational settings.
  • Understanding of learning theory and practices to support diverse learner needs.


Education
A Masters degree is required, or a Bachelors degree with an equivalent combination of relevant professional experience.
