Detailed Job Description
The new Interpreting Lecturer will:
  • Teach interpreting skills and theory courses in the Interpreting programs.
  • Participate in interpreting and work-related professional development activities.
  • Participate in communication and diversity training.
  • Serve the department, university, and the community as needed.


Department/College Description
NTID/ASL and Interpreting Education Department is the world's largest interpreting education program. Its M.S. in Healthcare Interpreting, B.S. in ASL-English Interpretation, Certificate in Healthcare Interpreting, and Certificate in Educational Interpreting programs serve 200 students. Department faculty also teach several hundreds of hearing, deaf, and hard-of-hearing students taking ASL courses. RIT/NTID is the home to the world's largest pool of interpreting practitioners who provide communication access to students cross-registered into RIT's eight other colleges.

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD or Master's degree in Interpreting, including teaching practicum; or Master's degree in an appropriate discipline related to the field of sign language or a relevant field (for example, Applied linguistics, cross-culture communication, communication, curriculum and instruction).
  • Experience teaching interpreting courses in a postsecondary setting; supervising interpreting students' internships; mentoring interpreting students; providing CEU-approved professional development experiences; or have completed a teaching practicum as part of a PhD or master's-level degree program in interpreting.
  • Experience and skills in interpreting and/or interpreting pedagogy
  • RID certification or another national interpreting certification
  • Demonstrated native-like proficiency in American Sign Language
  • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college's continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism and individual differences
